Vision AI for Retail - DSSE 2025 in Munich

At this year's Digital Signage Summit Europe (DSSE) in Munich, we proudly showcased our latest innovation in retail technology: the "Vision AI for Retail" project. In collaboration with Sony and their AITRIOS platform, we demonstrated how cutting-edge AI-driven digital signage can transform the in-store customer experience.

Central to our exhibit was Sony's impressive 98" BRAVIA FW-98BZ53L display, renowned for its 4K HDR resolution, 780-nit brightness, and 24/7 operation capability, deep black non-glare coating and cognitive processor XR. Mounted atop this display was Sony's IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor, a groundbreaking CMOS sensor that combines image processing and AI on a single chip, enabling real-time object detection directly at the edge.

This integration allows the system to process visual data instantly, eliminating the need for cloud-based processing and ensuring swift, responsive interactions with customers. All object detection and data processing happens locally, directly on the device (“on the edge”), and no visual data or customer information is transferred over the internet. This approach guarantees full privacy for shoppers, complies with strict data protection regulations, and removes any latency issues associated with cloud-based AI.

Dynamic Content Tailored to Customer Behavior
The "Vision AI for Retail" project exemplifies how AI can personalize the shopping experience:
- Product Recognition: When a customer picks up a bottle of wine, the system detects the object and triggers a video showcasing complementary items like French cheeses and fruits, encouraging cross-selling.
- Healthy Choices: If an apple or banana is selected, a smoothie-making video plays, suggesting additional fruit purchases.
- Engagement Prompt: In the absence of customer interaction, the display invites passersby to engage by picking up an item, thereby activating the AI sensor and personalized content.
This approach not only enhances customer engagement but also provides retailers with valuable insights into consumer preferences and behaviors.
